Presences – Cataclysm Style

As promised, the specifics on the presence overhaul:

  • Blood Presence – The death knight takes on the presence of Blood, increasing Stamina by 8%, armor contribution from cloth, leather, mail and plate items by 60%, and reducing damage taken by 8%. Increases threat generated. Only one Presence may be active at a time.
  • Frost Presence – Strengthens the Death Knight with the presence of Frost, increasing damage by 10% and increasing Runic Power generation by 10%. Only one Presence may be active at a time.
  • Unholy Presence – Infuses the Death Knight with Unholy Fury, increasing attack speed and rune regeneration by 10%, and movement speed by 15%,. Only one Presence may be active at a time.

As I’ve already pointed out in the Unholy and Frost Alpha talent discussions, based on these and based on the Improved Presence talents, it’s almost guaranteed that each tree will run in its respective presence, as is only logical.

    In theory, 10% quicker rune refreshes should be the equivalent of 10% extra damage and 10% extra RP, although of course there are a lot of extra attacks etc outside of the rune system.

    The 15% increased attack speed looks a bit out of place, and talent speaks of a 5% boost to the haste granted by unholy presence so I wonder if it is a baseline 10% haste, which would make sense. Oddly enough it is frost which has the haste themed mastery/talents (I suspect that the icy talons line of talents will get a few changes however)

    Does melee haste increase the rune regeneration rate, or is it only general haste?

      10% quicker rune refreshes wouldn’t quite equal 10% extra damage (due to pets) and 10% extra RP (since RP abilities would essentially double dip into the presence, whereas they only benefit once from increased rune refreshes).

      The description of Unholy Presence does seem odd, but it’s come from the same source as the others, which I’ve been able to confirm elsewhere. If I were to guess, it’s simply 10% haste – which would include personal attack speed, pet attack speed, personal rune regen, and pet energy regen.

      I’ll look into it as best I can though. Stupid NDA makes things quite difficult!

        The way unholy presence works at the moment with granting melee haste amongst other things, it actually boosts pet damage, whereas blood presence doesn’t.

        Oddly enough even the gargoyle works off your melee haste.

        I agree the numbers don’t work out exactly, for a baseline comparison, and it depends on what sort of haste the baseline presence and the talent boost give you, but I think the numbers will work out pretty comparable between the presences with the talent pushing you over.

        Although as the unholy tree is constructed atm, there’s going to be a lot talents that’ll we’ll need to choose between.

    10% damage + 10% more runic power from Frost Presence seems incredibly strong. I wouldnt be terribly surprised to see UP and/or IUP get some tweaks. Im not sure the current implementation would overtake Frost Presence (I could be wrong).

    I wonder what happened to “Crit Immunity will come from Presences/Stances/Forms”? They changed their minds? Wonder if it was because it would probably cause an over-haul of Tanks that are just DPS switching to Frost Presence(Blood Presence lol) in the LFG Queue..

      Crit immunity is granted by Improved Blood Presence.

        Right, but they said they wanted crit reduction to be available at a baseline level so that any spec could tank simple dungeons.

        Right, but how would you provide crit immunity to all DK specs without throwing pvp out of whack? I could be wrong but I think thats going to be one of those promises they simply cant keep.

        No Roth, they had planned to give Crit Immunity to Creatures to Tank Presences/Stances/Auras/Forms/Seals/Whatever, not Crit Immunity to Players, they’re two entirely different things.

      It’s not like there aren’t already enough of them out there, signing up with their 6k GS dmg equipment and then switching to their awsome 3-4k GS Heal/Tankgear in HoR. Let alone the fact that most of them haven’t even tanked gundrak or any other of the easy instances.
